WELCOME TO APORIA VERSION 1.4C
------------------------------
Aporia is a powerful object oriented user interface for Windows 2.x and
3.0. It lets you organize your work simply and clearly by providing a
variety of advanced features that make its icon interface really work.
The heart of Aporia is the concept of tools. A tool is not just a
pretty picture, it also has enhanced abilities. It can be dropped onto
another to be run, or chained together to form a new tool. A tool can
store other tools letting you run multiple programs with one mouse
click. A tool can size and position the programs it runs. And, tools
are fully integrated into a powerful file management scheme.
-----------------
INSTALLING APORIA
-----------------
To install Aporia run the Aporia Setup program SETUPAP.EXE.
Windows 3.0 users run this program from WITHIN Windows.
If you don't understand some of the options you are given
don't worry. Setup gives you a default choice for each
option. These defaults will work fine for most users and
can be changed later once you get to know Aporia better.
To install Aporia from a floppy disk:
1. Insert the Aporia distribution disk in you A drive.
2. Run the Windows File Manager program and open a window
listing the files on your A drive.
3. Find the SETUPAP.EXE file in the listing double-click on it
using the LEFT mouse button.
To install Aporia from a hard disk:
1. Create a temporary directory on your hard disk.
2. Copy all Aporia files into this temporary directory.
2. Run the Windows File Manager program and open a window
listing the files in the directory.
3. Find the SETUPAP.EXE file in the listing double-click on it
using the LEFT mouse button.
This program installs and sets up Aoria for first-time users
and for those updating from earlier versions of Aporia.

from the DOS prompt.

LATE BREAKING PROGRAM INFORMATION
---------------------------------
The following useful information in not included in the user manual.
* Removing Aporia
If you have made Aporia your Windows shell DO NOT remove the Aporia
program files (APORIA.EXE and APLIB.EXE) from where they are installed
without FIRST making Program Manager (or some other program) the shell.
You can do this by editing the SYSTEM.INI file or by using the Aporia
Setup program. If Windows can not find the shell program when it runs
it will crash.
* Creating your own icons with Paintbrush:
Here's an easy way to create your own icons using Paintbrush and the
Image Maker program supplied with Aporia.
1. Run both Paintbrush and Image Maker.
2. From the Paintbrush Options menu select the Image Attributes
command and set the image size to 34 by 34 PELS.
3. From the Paintbrush File menu select the New command.
4. Draw your icon in the Paintbrush window.
5. In Image Maker select the Capture Icon command and click the mouse
over your the icon you drew in Paintbrush.
6. Your icon will appear in Image Maker and then can be saved to
an Aporia image file.
* Registered users can specify text to appear when the screen blanker
is up in place of their registration name. To do this enter the
following line in the Aporia section of your WIN.INI file:
BlankName=<text>
Where <text> is the text you want displayed. For example if you work
for Acme Scrub Brush Ltd. you could add the line:
BlankName=Acme Scrub Brush Ltd.
This feature is NOT available for unregistered users.
